Welcome to the 2022-23 season folks. I wish all you hot-mess moms a wonderful season filled with new friends, wonderful memories, growth and development for your kiddos and of course some good tourney hangovers. The first month is always a little hectic before you get back into the rhythm of the season, not forgetting to sharpen skates, what's for supper, scheduling the family's life for the next 10 months, planning on how you can be at two rinks at the same time, meeting the coaches, learning the names and numbers of all the kids and figuring out which of their parents you want to hang with at the tournaments. Deep breath momma. You got this. You are your family's equipment manager, driver, nutritionist, cheerleader, first aid attendant, scheduler and most importantly, you are their mom. You can do all the things. So put your hair in a funky bun, grab a coffee and get going.
Our youngest, Jack went back to the academy. He seems much more confidant as a returning player this year. First year bantam (U15) is a tough transition, undoubtedly made a little tougher by billeting out away from home. The tryout process was long and grueling this year for our U18 and I am so happy to get on with our season. Cameron is loving playing high school hockey and enjoying the time with his buddies that he graduates with this year. It is a big year. I am so excited for both of them and at the same time a little sad. My youngest away again for the season and for my oldest the end of his minor hockey career. I am trying to not think ahead but rather focus on right now. Watching every single game and soaking in every single moment I have with them.
There is so much I want to cover this season from some new custom Canadian made sticks we found, heartwarming hockey stories, coaching tips (from coaches), a couple awesome hockey books I am reading, hockey mom hacks, recipes for game nights, new merch and some cool new products that I love and have partnered with. I am feeling slightly more settled into my new role and I am excited to allot myself the weekly time to get back to my love of writing and of course hockey. A career change at 46 can be a challenging but rewarding experience. It took me a little longer than I thought to build confidence in myself but that is life. We get one shot at it, better make it count! So, stay tuned for new blogs weekly and some cool new things in the store.
If you are new to this blog, take a look around, there are lots of blogs up from last season. Get to know me and why I am so passionate about our national game. If you are returning, welcome back, I appreciate your support while I chase a dream. I have really missed writing and I am looking forward to many early Sunday mornings writing about what makes my heart sing. I am so grateful to be able to watch both my boys do what makes them so happy. I know in my heart that hockey will always be an integral part of this family.
Do you have a hockey story you want to share? Please shoot me a message or an email and let's get it up. This space is for everyone and I want to fill it with as much as I can. I wish you the best for the season! Let's gooooooo!!!!!!!!
